Ordinary Seaman - O&R

About the role

The Ordinary Seaman is a deck rating responsible for maintaining the ship’s cleanliness, safety, and assisting with deck operations and bridge watches.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and maintain the hull, decks, masts, superstructure, and interior spaces, including rust scaling and painting.
• Maintain vessel running gear, mooring/anchoring equipment, safety and lifesaving gear, and cargo handling equipment.
• Keep crew quarters and common areas tidy, and support safety and environmental procedures.
• Assist the Bosun, mentor junior deck crew, and suggest operational improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum one year of shipboard experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic to intermediate English verbal and written skills.
• Ability to work 7 days a week, live in close quarters, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Required skills

• Familiarity with safety and environmental protection policies (SEMS).
• Ability to stand, walk long distances, climb, lift >25 lb, and perform emergency lifesaving procedures.
