About the role
The Environmental Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining solid waste handling equipment aboard ship, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain waste handling machinery such as incinerators, pulpers, tin can crushers and glass crushers.
- Collect, segregate and store garbage according to company policy and assist with off‑loads.
- Maintain cleanliness of garbage areas and equipment, and report any violations of waste segregation procedures.
- Support the Environmental Officer and administer the ship’s environmental program, including training and compliance.
Required profile
- Minimum one year experience in a machine shop or similar industrial environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent and STCW training from an accredited institution.
- Basic to intermediate English communication skills.
- Ability to work 7 days a week, live in close quarters and perform physical tasks such as lifting over 25 lb.
Required skills
- Operation of solid waste handling equipment.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental protection policies and SMS procedures.
- STCW certification.
