Human Resources Director

About the role

The Human Resources Director on board a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel provides generalist HR support to all ship departments, ensuring compliance with company policies, collective bargaining agreements and international regulations. The role acts as the key liaison between shipboard management and corporate HR, guiding the implementation of HR initiatives and fostering a positive crew environment.

Key responsibilities

• Advise ship management on employee‑related issues, participate in Master’s hearings and conduct senior‑level HR training (e.g., sexual harassment).
• Oversee crew well‑being programs, compensation, benefits, leave administration, awards and morale‑building activities.
• Ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements, MLC 2006 work‑hour regulations and ship‑specific safety policies.
• Manage time‑attendance audits, disciplinary investigations and coordination with security, medical staff and union representatives.
• Partner with Shipboard Talent Management to update job descriptions, conduct investigations and support performance‑management processes.

Required profile

• Intermediate to advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Minimum three years of HR experience in an international or multi‑cultural environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Psychology or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Professional appearance, strong ethics and ability to work seven days a week in close‑quarters living conditions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Knowledge of MLC 2006 regulations and collective bargaining agreement compliance.
