About the role
The Able Seaman supports deck operations, maintains ship cleanliness, and assists with navigation duties under the direction of the Bosun and Officer of the Watch.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in keeping the ship clean, well‑maintained and perform general deck work.
- Stand watch as directed, act as designated helmsman, and steer the ship in ports or as instructed.
- Operate bridge equipment: fire detection panel, telephones, and assist with switching between hand and auto steering.
- Perform gangway and tender duties, and conduct deck rounds as ordered.
- Train and guide less‑experienced crew members.
Required profile
- STCW‑95 certified Able Seaman meeting international and flag‑state regulations.
- Previous experience as a deck hand or equivalent.
- Familiarity with company Safety Management System (SMS).
Required skills
- Proficient helmsman skills.
- Basic seamanship and deck work competence.
