2nd Engineer - Cruise Ship

About the role

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is looking for a Second Engineer for its Oceania Cruises fleet. The Second Engineer maintains an effective engine room watch and carries out maintenance duties as assigned, working under the direction of the Chief Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an efficient and alert engine room watch at sea and in port, calling the Chief Engineer whenever in doubt.
• Carry out maintenance of assigned technical systems as designated by the Staff Chief Engineer and/or Chief Engineer.
• Assist in familiarizing lower-ranked engine officers with the vessel and help prepare the Engine Department Monthly Condition Report.
• Be fully familiar with emergency control procedures for controllable-pitch propellers, where fitted, and carry out systematic checks of oil-to-sea interfaces.
• Prepare a handover report before leaving the vessel and represent the Engine Department on the Shipboard Safety Committee when assigned.
• Follow the Chief Engineer's instructions when loading or transferring bunkers, MDO, lube oils or oily sludge, and comply with laws on refrigerant emissions, bilge water, oily sludge, black water and gray water operations.
• Ensure the fuel switchover process is carried out as outlined and perform all other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Second Engineer qualification and license compliant with international and national conventions, endorsed by the Flag State, with all STCW certificates.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Full knowledge of the Company's SMS and thorough knowledge of the assigned vessel.
• Leadership and managerial skills, including seamanship, decision making, team building, coaching, communication, conflict resolution, budgeting and time management.
