Fireman – Shipboard Fire & Emergency Response

About the role

The Fireman is a key member of the ship’s fire attack team, responsible for fire fighting, equipment maintenance and supporting medical emergency response on board a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and inspect all portable fire fighting equipment, tenders and lifeboats in accordance with SOLAS, Class Authority and Flag State regulations.
• Conduct regular fire‑extinguishing appliance checks, repairs and modifications following AMOS procedures.
• Participate in emergency codes, assist the medical team to EMT standards when fire‑fighting duties allow, and lead fire‑attack operations as the first responder.
• Perform hot‑work inspections, grant work permits, and monitor enclosed‑space atmospheres for safe entry.
• Attend monthly Safety and Crew Environmental Committee meetings and carry out safety rounds with the Safety Officer.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of professional fire‑fighter experience on maritime vessels.
• High‑school diploma or equivalent and STCW certification from an accredited institution.
• Intermediate to advanced English communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Firefighting and fire‑extinguishing equipment operation.
• Knowledge of SOLAS regulations and AMOS maintenance systems.
• Proficiency with UHF radio/handy phone communication devices.
• Ability to conduct safety inspections and enforce fire‑prevention standards.
