About the role
The Junior Deck Seafarer is an entry‑level trainee role in the Deck Department of a cruise ship. It provides hands‑on experience with ship maintenance, safety procedures and guest‑service duties, preparing the holder for future promotion to Ordinary Seaman or Able Body Seaman.
Key responsibilities
- General cleaning, rust scaling and painting of the hull, decks, equipment, masts, superstructure and interior spaces.
- Cleaning and painting of vessel tanks and enclosed areas.
- Storing equipment and supplies safely in designated areas.
- Assisting on mooring decks during arrivals and departures, and supporting bridge and anchor watches as directed.
- Working with carpenters on varied assignments and handling garbage disposal.
- Standing gangway watches in port and at anchor, and assisting tender crew duties.
Required profile
- High‑school diploma or foreign equivalent.
- Six months of manual labour, production or repair experience preferred.
- Basic to intermediate English verbal and written skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to schedule changes.
- Passion for hospitality, professional appearance, and good hygiene.
- Willingness to live in close quarters and work seven days a week.
