1st Officer Navigation (Cruise Ship)

About the role

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is looking for a 1st Officer Navigation to stand the bridge watch 04-08 and 16-20 on a Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessel. The officer acts on behalf of the Master during his or her watch, covering safety of navigation, emergency procedures and navigational duties.

Key responsibilities

• During the watch follow emergency procedures, comply with port procedures and record entry in the deck logbook when a Work/Enclosed Spaces Permit is issued.
• Prepare the pilot card information sheet and consult the Master on weather forecasts and navigational warnings before departure.
• Report navigational progress, including speed, to the Master and monitor watertight doors during the watch.
• With the Staff Captain, carry out daily ship's stability calculations and check the stability book requirements.
• Provide a positive report on bridge readiness, cooperate on safe access to the vessel and prepare a handover report before leaving the watch.
• Comply with SMS checklists, know the other watchkeeping officers' duties, and stay informed on environmental regulations along the itinerary.
• Attend mooring stations as instructed, carry out tank inspections as delegated, and apply company OH&S measures.
• Keep navigational charts and publications up to date, mark cancelled charts, and train new and lower-rank officers on bridge equipment.
• Calculate sunrise and sunset times daily and inform the Cruise Director, Information Desk and department heads of time zone changes.
• Assist the Staff Captain and Safety Officer with emergency drills and crew training.

Required profile

• Deck Officer qualifications and licenses in line with international and national conventions.
• Deck Officer license endorsed by the flag state and all certificates required by STCW 95.
• Chief Officer license and certificates also preferred but not required for this watch assignment.
• At least 6 months of experience as a Deck Officer or equivalent on passenger vessels preferred.
