Assistant Carpenter

About the role

The Assistant Carpenter supports all carpentry and deck work aboard Norwegian Cruise Line vessels, following instructions from senior carpenters and ship officers. This role ensures safe, clean, and efficient workmanship in a multicultural onboard environment.

Key responsibilities

• Measure, mark, cut, and assemble wood or metal components using hand and power tools.
• Dismantle and transport equipment, maintain clean work areas, and follow safety regulations.
• Inspect structures such as ceilings, walls, and flooring for damage and perform repairs.
• Assist the entertainment department with set construction and repairs as needed.
• Participate in fire fighting, safety, and damage control training and respond to emergency codes.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience as an Assistant Carpenter or 2 years as a maintenance worker.
• High school diploma or equivalent and STCW certification.
• Basic to intermediate English communication skills.
• Ability to work in close quarters, adapt to schedule changes, and collaborate with a multicultural crew.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools (saws, hammers, measuring tape, square, scriber).
• Experience using power tools (drills, sanders, nail guns).
• Ability to read and follow technical drawings and safety procedures.
