Automation Technician

About the role

The Automation Technician operates stage automation systems on a cruise ship, ensuring safe and efficient movement of equipment, rigging, and scenery during rehearsals, shows, and changeovers.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and manage the stage automation control system, overseeing rehearsals, shows, and set‑up to maximize safety.
• Direct scenic changeovers, inspect installations, and maintain auditable records of all shows and equipment changes.
• Assist the Electronics Engineer and technical staff with preventive maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of automation, rigging, and scenery.
• Lead pyrotechnic operations, manage inventory, and coordinate with bridge and security for safe show execution.

Required profile

• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of technical theatrical productions, backstage operations, and safe rigging practices.
• Associate’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent vocational training/experience.
• Physical ability to stand, walk long distances, lift over 25 lb, and perform emergency procedures on a vessel.

• Automation systems such as Nomad, Acrobat, Visual Stage control.
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Audio and lighting system operation.
• Safe stage rigging practices.
