Oiler

About the role

Norwegian Cruise Line is looking for an Oiler to support the engine room of its ships. The Oiler maintains and operates machinery as directed by the First Engineer and works closely with the crew during engine watch.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in machinery operation and maintenance as directed by the First Engineer
• Maintain a high work morale and encourage safe, effective work methods
• Join the engine watch when necessary, following the officer in charge's instructions and company standing orders
• Clean, rust scale and paint the inside and enclosed spaces of the vessels
• Support engine room operations, maintenance and repairs, and assist in maintaining all of the ship's running machinery
• Take part in safety-related tasks for the vessel, crew and environment, and follow the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS
• Perform other related duties assigned by the First Engineer

Required profile

• At least one year of experience in a machine shop or related industrial environment
• High school diploma or foreign equivalent
• Basic to intermediate English, verbal and written, with correct grammar
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to schedule and deadline changes
• Willingness to work 7 days a week and live in close quarters with limited space
• Professional appearance, good hygiene, respect for co-workers and guests, and pride in the work

Required skills

• Position-specific STCW training from an accredited institution
• Familiarity with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS
